Young Adults and COVID-19

Is your Young Adult due for an annual physical? Need a flu shot or medication check?

New Canaan Pediatrics has always promoted the importance of the annual physical. We also understand the young adult years
are when your child strives for more independence.

With the challenges of COVID-19, it is even more important now for your young adult to have an annual physical with someone
they know and trust. If they continue their annual physicals through their young adult years, it helps them to want to continue
preventative health care throughout their young adult years and beyond, while moving towards more independence.

Most colleges are closing from Thanksgiving through January 2021, we are opening schedules to get these very important
visits in. If your Young Adult hasn’t had a flu shot, they can receive it at the physical, or call the office and schedule a flu shot!

Please make sure your Young Adult follows all the current COVID-19 protocols prior to his/her visit. If traveling from a “hot state” or have had any exposure, they will need to quarantine two weeks prior to their visit, so schedule accordingly!
Please call today, 203-972-4250 to schedule an appointment!

Important Updates For New Canaan Pediatrics’ Families

The following are some new and exciting changes we are now offering to help provide the best care possible for our families.   Please take a moment and read through them all.  The new Financial Policy, Credit Card on File Option, CHADIS for all physicals, and collection of emails all require your action.  In addition, there are some new updates on Covid-19 and practice protocols.  Any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Mary@ncpedi.com or 203-972-4240!

CHADIS and EMAILS

CHADIS is a Comprehensive Health and Development Interactive System that will be a part of every yearly physical to not only make the visit more efficient, but more meaningful as well.  In order to register for CHADIS we will need a household email that will be sent prior to your annual physical, so please make sure we have an email on file for your family.  You can register and learn more about CHADIS HERE.

Financial Policy – Form Charges & Credit Card On File

These past few months have been challenging for everyone in many different ways.  As a small community practice, we have been working hard to continue to provide our families with the level of care they deserve and are accustomed.  We have introduced a new Financial Policy that we are asking all our families to read, sign, and submit.  These policies are in place to help us meet many of the new mandates and demands that this new Covid-19 environment requires.  One highlight of the policy is that we will now be charging $10 per school, camp, or sports form given outside the yearly physical (no charge for forms at your physical) with a 3-5 day turn-around time. There will be a $20 charge for a “rush” form (within 3 days).

In addition, we now offer and encourage you to keep a credit card on file.  We are using a secure third party processor and your card will not be charged without your approval.  Please read the complete Financial Policy, sign and submit to us today. Click HERE for the policy.

TELEHEALTH

As we continue to see well visits in the office we will also continue to offer telehealth visits. Please call the office to schedule a telehealth visit with your doctor. Learn more about Telehealth HERE.

COVID-19 Office Protocols

For the foreseeable future, we will be asking you to call us from your car when you have arrived in the parking lot for your visit.  We will text you when we are ready for you to enter the office. Everyone age 2+ entering the building must wear a mask and your temperature will be taken at the door.  We continue to sanitize every exam room after every visit as well as wipe down door knobs and equipment. There has been some updates in terms of COVID testing, to learn more, click HERE

We are now offering Telehealth!

COVID-19 Vaccinations

New Canaan Pediatrics will administer the COVID-19 vaccine for
patients 6 months to 5 years old only.

At this time, children 6 months to 5 years old are the only group we are vaccinating.

Both the Pfizer and Moderna vaccine are now authorized and approved for children 6 months to 5 years. We believe both vaccines are good, but we will  be giving the Moderna vaccine for now. We recommend all our patients 6 months and older receive the COVID-19 vaccines, however we are only administering to this age group right now. We understand you have many questions regarding the vaccine and this age group. Please visit some of the sites below the sign-ups to help answer your questions and please remember to complete the consent form before your appointment.

If you are interested in having your child receive the 6m-5yr Covid-19 Vaccine
Please call our office.

The Covid-19 vaccine is shipped to us in vials of 10 shots per vial. This means we need to schedule 10 shots within a 6 hour window so we will be collecting names and putting together groups of ten to be scheduled on one day for the first dose and then another day for the second dose. We want to make this as easy as possible for families to get your infant/toddler vaccinated. We will be asking you to work with us in coordinating dates. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call Mary at 203-972-4240.

VERY IMPORTANT: Please sign this consent form online before your appointment. Click on CONSENT FORM

The American Academy of Pediatrics encourages children ages 6 months and older to get the COVID-19 vaccine. The vaccine series consists of two doses, separated by 21 days. The pediatric dose is a smaller dose than the adult dose. In  clinical trials, vaccination was nearly 91% effective in preventing COVID-19 among children aged 5-11. Vaccine side effects were mild, self-limiting, and similar to those seen with other vaccines recommended for children.

New Canaan Pediatrics encourages all our families to get vaccinated. Unfortunately, we do not have the COVID-19 vaccine for children over 5 at this time.

Where can you get your 5+ year old vaccinated with either the first, second, or booster near you?
     – The New Canaan Health Department is administering the Covid-19 vaccine for children ages 5 to 11 years of age. Please visit the link below to see updates and schedule. You do not need to be a resident of New Canaan to receive the vaccine. Please read the sign up directions carefully.
